Thursday, December 3
International Day of People with Disabilities 2009
The City of Toronto joins with its community partners to observe and celebrate International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3 at Variety Village.
Each year, the mayor proclaims the day in accordance with the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The United Nations annual observance is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by persons with disabilities.
Part of the City's celebration is to honour unsung heroes among the many people with disabilities who live in Toronto. Each year, people are invited to submit their poem about any aspect of disability to the Invitation to Poetry event. New this year is the Invitation to Art, an opportunity for artists to display their work at the event. The nomination deadline for unsung heroes and the submission of art and poetry is October 30, 2009. Go to the City of Toronto website to make a nomination or for more information click here.
